Jalan Segambut was planned to be upgraded into 6 lanes highway, allowing easy access between Mount Kiara, Segambut and Jalan Ipoh/Jln Kuching. From then properties started looming at premium price such as Bukit Prima Pelangi and Anjung Tiara. This however was planned about half a decade ago, until now there is still no indication of development work being initiated, the main reason behind it is the land title issue.
THE bad road conditions and traffic jams along Jalan Segambut have long been an issue with the people living there and in the surrounding areas. According to resident Bahar Ahmad, 38, the traffic gets bad during peak hours and cars would be at a standstill. Poor road conditions: Jalan Segambut, a major road connecting Mont Kiara to Kuala Lumpur, is narrow and has lots of potholes. “Many of us live along Jalan Segambut and it is difficult to get in and out of our houses,” said Bahar, who has been living there for the past 12 years. Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said one of his priorities was to sort out the problems affecting Jalan Segambut. Lim said he had raised the question of when the road would be upgraded with the Federal Territories Minister (Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique) in Parliament. “I also asked for the detailed plans, the cost and who the appointed contractors are,” said Lim. Lim said the reply given was that the project had been included in the Tenth Malaysia Plan proposals but the land acquisition process had been going on during the Ninth Malaysian Plan. The reply also stated the total cost of upgrading the road was RM165mil and the ceiling allocation that was approved in the Ninth Malaysia Plan was RM40mil, of which RM20mil had been allocated and was expected to be only sufficient for land acquisition. There would not be enough money to fund the project until 2010, which is the end of the Ninth Malaysian Plan,” said Lim. Bahar said the residents living along the road had not been approached regarding land acquisition or upgrading works. Lim said he would continue to bring up the matter with the FT Ministry until the actual upgrading works took place. |
